Probably gonna be joining you 69-72 guys.

Check out my build thread if you have a couple hours...

I think I figured out what to do. Stuff I already have or freeish.

1:Brother's 80-something CUCV frame = beefy and good WB for 46"s, tall frame I can tuck trans and case up into for flatish belly. Chop off what's left after springs.

2:Put '70 or '74 2wd (buddy wants to get rid of them) cab and front clip on, build flatbed/exo with removable '55 stepside bedsides.

3: Install TH400/205, fab drivelines.

4: Set up springs, fender trimming for 46"s with dummy axles.

5: When I'm ready, plunk K5 TBI350 and locked one tons in.

Meanwhile, I can wheel the K5 pretty much as-is on 38"s.

Even though it's not really old enough, I'm gonna build it rat rod style - all go, no show, leave it rusty 'n stuff. Probably call it "Rusty".

I read that and thought, okay a two or three page thread must be out there . . . clicked your Build linky in your sig and went :eek1:

May take me more than a couple hours to read ;)

Sounds like one heck of a project you have going on - I will have to try to follow it!

Truck just dropped me 4 presents.

My blazer is on 38" michelins on 4" lift in this pic. The 46" is parked in front of it.

My build thread is a long drawn out story of 2 or 3 trucks, wrecks, restarts....with some tech.

:D :doah:

(Too?) big. 15.50/80/R20

46"x14" or so. 12,000 lb rating, 220 lbs of rubber and steel. Dana 60 breaker I reckon. (Cross fingers)

I have a set of 395/85 R20 Michelin XML's.

Think about this: Two of those tires weigh as much as a D60 :eek1: :eek1: !!

If you built a Dynatrac 'ultimate' D60 (the best/beefiest of everything), then I would say, "It might hold up :doah: :( !!!"

I really don't think a front D80 could handle it, much less a D60.

Remember, a Rockwell 2.5 ton axle has 1.64 inch axle shafts.

And those tires are built for Rockwell 5 ton axles :eek1: !!

Willyswanter ran 47" LTBs on his big, heavy crewcab with alloy shafts. I'm gonna keep my rig lite and hope for the best. If they eat too many shafts, I'll lose them. You gotta try everything once, especially really big tires.

I believe those LTB's probably don't weigh 250lbs. a piece either.

More like 150lbs.

I know. Like I said, ya gotta try it once. I'm gonna test them on the K5 before I build the other truck for them. I only have a TBI 350...he has a Vortec 454 if I"m not mistaken.
