I am trying to change the rag joint on my '85 K5....have the coupler(name?) that holds rag joint off of the truck and now I cant figure out how to get the old (stock) joint out of the bracket. The bolts holding it are pressed (maybe?) on. I have tried vice grips to spin them off, thinking that they may be threaded....any ideas????

HELP!!!!????!!!??!! /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Re: Probably Dumb question, but need help ASAP

They're just bolts and nuts. Sounds like your rubber is just so rotten that the heads of the bolts sunk in.

No....I got the nuts and bolts off, it is the other two that are keeping the joint to the bracket....they are teh ones that would be considered the "Safety" catches I think.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Can't pry it. on one side of the joint is the bracket that bolts to the steering box, on the other side is a piece of metal to hold it on. This is under the safety pins...If my wife hadn't taken the camera I would post a pic.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

Those pins are there for safety in case the nuts come off the bolts, then the pins will still allow you to turn the wheel. The steering shaft will not telescope out of the way, so you'll need to remove the steering box.
