so i pulled my pile in the driveway and turn it off, go inside and 9 hours later its not starting... first try it cranked over once and then it just started sounding like it was a little electric rc car making that really fast spinning electric motor sound or something towards that and it wasnt turning over anymore after the first one. just put a new starter in last night oh yea, its a carb 350

Bad solenoid sounds like. Noise is your starter turning, but the bendix isn't hitting the flywheel.

i believe the starter gear isnt touching and my buddy told me to hit the back of the starter with a rubber mallet to knock it in there and it should work, i think im gonna take the caveman approach and see if that works before i head down to the autoshop. cant drive anymore so its kind of a bitch to get to the auto store since the closest one is about a 20 min drive away but i think i might be able to check it in my auto class if we have the correct diagnostics tool.

If it's doing it now, it won't get any better. Need to fix it, next time it happens you may be by yourself out in the woods, or at best late to your job or something.

so i put a new starter in and still have the same problem. could it be electical? my guess is that it has something to do with the flywheel, anyone else have an idea?

The starter is still spinning and lights work, plus i checked it with a volt meter anyways. It looks like they rethreaded the outside hole for my starter bolts so it could be crooked and that may be whats causing the problem.
