hey guys well the jimmy (1988 350 tbi) i just bought is acting up again and i don't know ware to start figuering out what is wrong, it is almost stalling in gear at the lights but as soon as i put it in neutral it will pick up it's idle again,

i also notice while driving it will start to shake then go away after a minute then come back and go away, and this is not just at one speed but a wide range of diffrent speeds, so that makes me think my tranny is cooked (700r4)

but i have been told my idle issue's could be the EGR or the IAC, so can i unhook the EGR to test if that is my problem or not, and what about the IAC how can i check that,

and the last thing i notice that my truck does not stay warm so i know the thermostat is stuck open, could that have an effect on this or not,

by the way the idle problem only happens when it is hot like coming off of the highway to a red light, or during rush hour

thanks guys i'm lost and need your help.

Tom

As far as checking the IAC you simply need to pull it out. Look at the amount of carbon buildup both on the valve itself and on the seat in the TBI. If it is suspect it is one of the cheaper ones to replace. Thermostat can affect TBI in a number of different ways. I know that stuck open can cause the computer to go into a bypass mode, and may be causing some of the grief you are seeing. Also check the fuel filter and fuel pump pressure. Either of those can cause a problem when warm at idle.

TCC solenoid staying on perhaps? Leaves the torque converter clutch locked after highway speeds and stalls engine when coming to a stop. That's why you can throw it in neutral and it doesn't stall.

k i will try all those things and get back to you guys, but now the problems keep on rolling in, the rear diff just started acting up, i notice it is leaking now and the yoke moves on the pinion shaft, and well as both u joints are toast. so will this ever end.

thanks guys

Tom
