I bought a Tubo diesel sub a while back, not running.
Supposedly it had a bad IP and the guy replaced it but didn't get it started.
I sat on it for years and now I had it sold and the guy said he will buy it, get it started and take off.
He spent 6 hours, didn't get anywhere, got frustrated and i gave him a way out so he back out.
Now I want this running.
Here is what we did.
5 new SS diesel glow plugs ( the other 3 are not accessible with the turbo exhaust manifold ATS turbo.
2 new batteries.
Crancking speed was OK, there was black smoke coming out of the exhaust.
Cable connections were not the greatest so we replaced them for better contact and replaced the starter with a gear reduction starter.
Speed was now better, still barely any noticeable explosions but no start.
We didn't bleed the system since i saw smoke coming out.
We used a couple of shots of starter fluid and then some more and nothing.
It wouldn't start or even attempt with the use of starter fluid.
Any suggestions?
Timing of IP maybe?
My next step is to take the exhaust manifold off and replace the glow plugs and in the meantime check compression in all cylinders, then if it checks out, try and bleed the system at the injectors.
Any thoughts?
I won't get to it for another week so let us talk about this so I go armed with lots of opions.

I know I said I am not in a hurry but...:)
I know it's a classic question, I have nothing particular except using starting fluid, shouln't it at least seem like it wants to start if the engine is good, that is what I am trying to figure out.
I guess I will answer my questions once i take the last glow plugs and check compression.
the ones i had checked showed 300-310 with the week starter.

Damn! I know that! Why didn't I think of it?:o

OK, get a cat to piss in your tank. The high ammonia content will kill the algae:D Actually if you can get them to "spray", as in what they do as a defense or if they are mad at you the ammonia content will be much higher and other released chemicals help as well.

Of course that won't work. It's just my warped sense of humor imagining a guy trying to get a cat to piss in the fill tube.

lol, bk you are funny. you could try a biocide and the put a bottle or two of power service into the tank, but your best bet would be to try running it from a fuel can just remember you will need to bleed the bad fuel out of the lines to the injectors.
