I'm having problems with my 4x4 on my 87 chevrolet. When I am at idle I put the trans in neutral and engage the 4x4 high. I can drive a short distance and it kicks out of 4x4 and the truck just revs like if its out of gear. I have to come to a stop to put it back in 4x4 high or 2wd. Also when the trans is in neutral it will go in 4H only no 4L. Any info will help out.

Sounds like the linkage is out of adjustment. I couldn't tell you how to adjust it, cause I haven't even looked to closely at my 208 yet. I'm assuming you have a 208, if wrong let me know.

I read how to do it in the haynes book, but I'm still lossed.:(

I have the same problem. I read how to adjust the linkage in the manual, and it did me no good. I just sat there with a really confused look on my face.

I need someone to show me in order to pick up on stuff like that.

Anyway, maybe someone will demonstrate on here with pictures or something. My linkage has been messed up since day one, and I almost hate using 4 wheel drive because of it.

Ok I adjusted the linkage and I have 4 HI :D all day no more popping out. I still can not engage N and 4 Lo on the transfer case. I'm not worried about N or 4Lo should I keep adjusting till it go's into N and 4Lo.

Well you sorta have to go into neutral in order to get to 4HI. But yeah, I would definitely worry about not having 4-LO

you don't have to hit neutral to get 4H. all the way forward is 4H, one back is 2H, then there's neutral, then all the way back is 4L. I'd keep tinkering with it till you can get it to work. You never know when 4L will come in handy. Come to think of it now, my K5 has never actually stayed in 4H.. if i want to use it i have to reach down and hold it forward... but usually i stay in 2wd and use 4L when i get stuck, lol.
