I have a 77 Chevrolet 3/4 ton with a older 305 or 350. Heres my problem when I go to start it after its been sitting for a day I have to pump the pedal several times to get it to start. When it warms up it starts fine only when it sits a while is when the problem starts. It seems like the fuel drops back into the tank.

Well that sounds pretty normal to me. You say older 305 or 350 so I assume it's carbuerated. That's just the nature of the beast unless their's more going on than just a few pumps to get it to start.??

Yep two full pumps and hit the key:D, also when its cold and you pump the gas that is what activates the choke and high idle lever, as it was more than likely parked warm and the choke was open.

Pumping the gas 2 times also activates the accelerator pump and shoots a couple shots of gas directly into the intake. Helps for the cold start along with the above mentioned choke and fast idle activation.

Perfectly normal for carbuerated vehicles. If the truck requires much more than 2 pumps to start you might have issues but sounds normal to me given the current information.

I thought quadrajets needed one to the floor to set the choke, then enough pumps while turning the key to get it going? Thats how mine usually starts. Usually only takes a couple pumps if its set 24 hours or so.

If its been sitting for a while, I'll usually put it back to the floor once it starts trying to fire up.
