production buggy chassis..save me time, anger and money!

Has anyone ever put one of the Formula Toy chassis on a Blazer frame? I don't have the money for a four link buggy and just spent a bunch of money on my existing K5 suspension but my sheet metal is really starting to get mangled. 1000 bucks for the DOM chassis seems really good. I just saw one on a Toyota frame yesterday but the guy mentioned it would probably mount on the K5 easily. Question is would this be safe with the extra weight of the 1/2 ton versus the Toyotas?

I bet you could take a load of measurements off of your K5 frame and give Hendrix a call. I'm sure they could lead you in the right direction. I would think since wheelbase is somewhat similar and the frames somewhat resemble each other that it could be done without to much reverse engineering.

I'm about a week off ordering the x-chassis with no inner tubing instead of the formula chassis so I get that buggy look in the rear. Checked all the measurements and talked with Mike. The formula four chassis would fit a full size chevy frame no prob, the standard formula would probably be better for a k5. Im 4 linking the rear and bobbing it so my rig is going to be short with about 112 in wheelbase and 145in in length.

It costs a lot more I'm sure and its in colorado and I would have to pay for shipping. Im in california and hendrix is a couple hours from me. Plus Im doing lots of custom changes so it doesnt really matter what frame its made for. But I do like that chassis that stevens making its just no feasable for me. Hendrix chassis is also designed in the look I'm going for which is the california Buggy look. I spend 90% of my time in the sand and it somewhat resembles a long travel buggy.

If your interested in seeing what is involved in the X chassis, we are currently building one with a 4.3L Vortec in it.

If you push the front axle forward 6-8" or so you'll end up with a decent weight bias (guessing a bit on this one)

that is the plan, or I want to totally rework the engin cross member and shove it down and back, everything kind of depends on the frmae donor at this point. Then I will go frome there. I also want to keep the radiator in front on this one for simplicity..not to mention the one time a roack would enter the cab it would likly nail my line to a radiator in back..then spew bioling hot fluids over my girl..then I would be wheeling alone and could have started with a s ingle seater..

so lets just avoid that all together..

as for s&n fab,,shipping might kill the deal.. plus I want to be a big part of the design..

Here is a pic of an x-chassis with no floor support mounted to a 76 gm k15 frame, cut in the rear with 4link.
