I'm about to test fire her up in a week or two and wanted to make a checklist in case I forgot anything. Even if it seems totally obvious like add oil (which I did already...) so if you guys could post up some things to check or do before I turn the key I'd sure appreciate it!!! THANKS!!!

And here are some tranny lines I just bent and put in... Thanks for the tips from the other thread all!!!

  1. Peel off sticker on radiator hose before it gets all hot and gooey
  2. Bolt on some exhaust manifolds
  3. Add some spark plugs and wires
  4. Run a fuel line up from pump
  5. Vaccuum line from distributor to carb base
  6. Hose from PCV breather on PS valve cover
  7. Hook up temp sender on PS head
  8. Throttle return spring
  9. Add coolant?
I'm out..... :D

Well the first thing I would do is put exhaust on it, so you dont burn the paint off your engine compartment... :D :D :D

That is why it won't fire up for a week or two...

I will add exhaust
will add fuel line

as far as temp sender on ps head, is it wrong to have it in the manifold?
I think my old one was in the water neck...

I still have to add a painless thermostat to control the electric fans and was going to mount that in the ps head... is that a bad idea?

thanks for the todo's all!

I forgot to hook up the hose to the vacuum booster to the back of the carb. I bolted up the bracket, but forgot the hose :doah:

I will change sig once she's trail worthy again... Engine isn't too far off stock though... RV cam, flat tops, vortec heads/intake, Jet stage 2 carb. I will be putting headers on with 2.5 in dual exhaust, but I'm gonna throw the manifolds and pipes back up to break in the engine.

So far I got a list of about 15 things!!!

Thanks for helping me with this list.

Last thing before you fire it spin that oil pump for a bit. Get all that oil runnin around in the places it needs to be.

Oh yea. That thing sure looks purdy!

dont forget the water jackets ont eh side of the block :o theres one on each side. and make sure all hose clamps are tight and hoses are all the way on and tight. spark plugs are tight. all vacuum ports are plugged. i dont recomend doin it while very intoxicated and after 10 cuz the cops will show up. atleas running no exhaust and just headers. :o (kinda lost track of time and beer count)

Thanks all!!! I can't wait to fire it up and scare the neighbors!!!

Thats the fun part mine didn't run when I bought it so the neighbors hardly new I had it then when I fired it up with the new crate engine and open headers :eek1: I pulled it out of the garage and it hasn't been back in since  , only because it doesn't fit anymore :haha:

They covered it all!..

I cant add anything that hasn't been said already!--just check everything 10 times--and if your like me,you'll find at least 11 things you forgot the first time! :doah: :haha: .... OH,and wear shades when opening your hood! BLING!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :rotfl: :D ...I like the yelllow paint !!..

Depending on what kind of headers your running you might want to do the initial start up with stock manilfolds. Alot of the "high heat" coatings cant handle new engine break in.
