Hello all! Thought I would start with saying thanks to so many for the posts and pictures I have been researching. Picked this California native up a few months ago and the resto has started. Looking forward to sharing the journey.

Few picks of the passenger rust repairs. Cut out cleaned and hit with Rustmort, Zinc primer and undercoating. Good news is the crossmember and torsion boxes are solid.
Looks really good so far. What are your plans for the mod part of the resto? LS swap?

Yep already got a L96/6l90 Combo with 7000 miles on them from a totaled Savana van. The dash is already hacked up so I plan on double din radio, Restomod air with billet controls and flush firewall. Digital dash and some kind of secure locking consule. Other details like disk brakes and hydroboost conversation crossover steering etc.
That will be a very nice rig for sure! I just swapped a L96 into my 91 burb and I love it. I kept the 4l80e as it was already there and had been rebuilt very recently but I could have gotten the 6l90e with my engine when I bought it. In a K5 thats properly geared that transmission will be excellent. Might even be able to get high teens for mileage. What axle gears are you going with? What t case are you going to use?

I haven't done the math yet on gear ratio options. It has 3.73 right now and they may work. I will rebuild and machine for the big bearing the existing NP205 with a Advance adapter.
Depending on tire size 3.73s probably could work. Seems like the argument goes a few different ways on these 6 speeds. Either leave the axle gears numerically low and let the transmission shift into what gear it needs while utilizing the low 1st gear to get going (this likely is your best gas mileage), or have deep (high numerically) axle gears that allow you to use 6th majority of the time and have an insane 1st gear low range.
Curious to see which way you go with it. Maybe there is a middle ground that would be perfect.
Any more updates with that 6L90? What year is this combo?

Still working on the rust, hope to get the body on the rotisserie by spring so I can focus on the chassis. Been really busy at the shop and wife had some surgery so been preoccupied. K85 the combo is out of a 2017 Savana.
