I am going to start a build thread, but I figured I would lay out the plans here.
I had an 88 K5 that I just got burned out on, so I stripped it of its goodies and made it go bye bye.
I STOLE an 82 6.2 Diesel K5 for $1100 with a blown 700R4, an 8 point roll cage, and a remarkably solid body.
She's got square tube bumpers with a big brush guard on the front, rock sliders under the rockers, an intake snorkel, and pretty much stock everything else.
The exhaust runs through the rear bumper to protect it from getting smashed. There is an exhaust stack with a flapper which is kinda cheesy, but strangely growing on me.
It's got 33x10.5 BFG All Terrains on it with no lift.
Future plans:
4" lift
35x12.5 Maxxis Bighorns
TURRRRRRRRRRBO from a 6.5 TD
12 bolt rear
Possibly 4.56 gears depending on how everything works together once the turbo and big tires are on.
I started today by yanking out the blown trans.
