Ok... so yall know ive got that D70HD, and i want disk brakes, with a parking brake feature.

SO i bought the SRW hubs off a 1998 G-van, and im harvesting the drum-in-hat brakes from a 2000 GMC Sierra 2500 2WD truck. The rotors will bolt to the back of the hubs old school style, instead of slipping over the outside of the hub like newer style axles. and the backing plate and caliper bracket will bolt to the D70HD with some sort of as yet unmade adaptor. Giving me big dual piston caliper brakes, and a fully functioning factory parking brake setup.

Heres my question. I want all my lugnuts to be interchangeable, same threads up front as in the backs. the SRW hub i got off the G-van has metric bolts. running the numbers the wheel bolts i have have a "Knurl diameter" of 0.625 inch. while the wheel bolts i want to put in from the older K30 have a "Knurl diameter" of 0.621 inch.

is that a major issue? 4 thousands of an inch? would the older style wheel bolts be too lose in the new style hubs? do i need to go find a 14bolt axle with the drum bolted to the back of the hub in order to make everything work?

Imo they're too small, I would find some studs .625 or bigger. If bigger, drill appropriately.

guess to make it easy, i could just drill out the D60 hubs and put the new style wheel bolts up front.

im just not sure what to look at for an application for long .625in wheel bolts to make this work.

It's tough to find but Dorman has a stud info pdf online that will let you search thru stud dimensions. Worst case, maybe find a local parts store with an actual catalog.

you guys are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! :)

oh, and once i actually have all the parts together, ill do a build thread on the axle, complete with pics, part numbers, measurements and all that jazz.

I'm a D70HD fan myself, whatcha puttin in it?

sweet, found something i think is gonna make it happen.

PN 610-359
threads - 9/16-18 (like the threads on the D60/D70HD combo)

length - 4-1/32in (should be more than long enough, a little extra wont hurt)

Knurl Diameter - .625in (just like whats in the SRW hubs already)

Shoulder length - 1-15/32in (hopefully long enough to go through the rotor and seat firmly into the hub body itself).

lol, jettas not that small ;)

its currently open according to the PO, so ill probably go detroit and leave the 4.10 gears in there. i really dont need more than that. especially when i do the NV4500 swap. I still want this thing to be relatively civil on the highway.

although i have done some thinking about a C&C 14bff put in the back of a 1970 Chevelle sporting an alcohol injected and turbocharged 572 big block :D

Oh my friend. D70 how cute......this is what you need brother. Just so happens I have an extra 1 :D ebrake in hat..... 15.5" rotors ;)

Mmmm not so much neck down as going from square to round.......but that round is still bigger and thicker than a D80 housing. :wink1:

sarcasm my friend, intense sarcasm.

although, if youve still got it down the road, i have a pipe dream of a 1946 chevy COE wrecker with a 6v-53T / spicer 5 speed, running on strait veggie oil or biodiesel...... maybe that would make a good rear axle :)
