Project Krumbling K5 (MEGA PICTURE FEST)

yeah its been a long one, and my parents hate me for it. I just put 4.10s in both ends, i know i should have gone with 4.56 but i will have to drive from katy TX to downtown to go to school every morning which is a good 30-45 minute drive. Not to mention I got the front set for free!! /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

I am in the process of welding in a new wheel arc into the quarter panel, so the next new post from me will be pics of however that comes out. Kinda scared since im using .035 flux. I want gas but the closest place is lik 30 miles from my house. There are absolutely NO darn gas suppliers in West Houston. Thanks for the comments guys, it really motivates me, most people are just like, why the heck you putting so much money into it. I think you guys are about the only people who MAY understand. I'll keep up the work and keep you guys updated
 
Been there...done that...glad it's completed. Where did you get the new tailgate skin...how's the quality?
 
Its a complete tailgate, not just a skin, not sure what you meant by that. My grandpa ordered from a body parts shop near his home, saved quite a bit of money on it. Normally there was a 100 freight fee, but since he works at FedEx, he had it shipped for 3 bucks. So i got it to my door for about 175.

It was about the easiest part to get in correctly. Since the bolts in the hinges have free play and so does the latch. Great quality i think.
 
if its just a skin, it's bare with out paint, and doesn't have the motor or window or anything inside it, it's just a metal "skin" for replacement.
 
ok, well it was only the skin, but it had primer on it. I just added all the other little gadgets from the old tailgate, plus some new stuff cuz alot of the gizmos in the old one were bad. I still need to buy the darn weatherstripping that goes against the glass in the tailgate. you did an awesome job on the paint, i don't know alot about paints or whatever, but how did you go about it. Is that just a red base with a clear coat?

Was that a rear quarter panel I saw? Where did you get it and was it a good quallity panel? I need one for my left side.

That is actually a VERY large repair panel from GMC PAULS. They call it a COMPLETE WHEEL ARC. I will be posting some picks of the finished product soon, im on my last layer of repair, some spot putty, then the primer goes on and sand on the scratches. What i did was cut down the repair piece to fit over all the existing rust, then i traced it out onto the track and cut it out. Welding the new panel in, it fit alot better then anything else i have ordered from anywhere. The curve needed to be adjusted a little, but it had been sitting in my garage for like a month, so i figured that would happen. Its only like 18 gauge or whatever the exterior body is. It was for sure alot easier then replacing the entire rear quarter, i can deal with the rest of the rust on the quarter. The repair pieces are made for a pickup, but i had not problem fitting them up on the blazer, you just have to cut some of the panel off for the gas hole.

Bought all three from LMC truck. They were kinda thin /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif though so i put some supports aross the floor making it LIKE A ROCK once again. /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif

Im going to buy a flanging and nibbler tool tomorrow before i try and put the other side in. Overlapping may SEEM easier but it took me days to get the body filler smoothed out, what was i thinking, im a better welder then a sander i guess.... /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif
