the thing should weight under 3k, with a 30" tall rear tire would you use a welded jeep cherokee rear or a spooled gm 12 bolt? running a flat top piston 350 and a 465 tranny.

or heaven forbid a ford 9"???

The only idea behind the 2 above listed axels is I have em, I'd have to buy the ford axle if that was the route I go.

I'll have to measure it to see width wise. the other thing is can I swap out the shafts to make it a 5 lug??? ( currently a 6 under my 68 burb)

I didn't realize your 12 bolt was a truck 12 bolt.

You can have new axle shafts made with a five lug pattern. Mark Williams, Moser, Strange etc can make any axle you want.

While the housing is out this would be a good time to have the axle tubes fully welded to the center section if you haven't already done so.

I found some steelies that make em in both 5 lug to match my front and 6 lug for the rear, so I'll go that route for now while I find a 12 bolt or 9" to swap in later.

heres my aquired parts so far

How about some pics of this thank under constrution. I'd scour the salvage yards for a 9" personally.

The 2wd GMC trucks had 5 lug 12 bolts before Chevy did. I believe around 70-71.:D

71 with the introduction of disc brakes. both Chevy and GMC got them for 71.

and thats where it stopped. My dad went into the hospitol a week later and actually just got released back home. So I should be able to get the car from him soon. I'll need another motor as the one I was gonna use is going in the buggy.

nice another ruff rod on the board !!.. id run the 12 bolt out of those 2 cause the 350 shouldnt break it unless your running a very hot motor

did you "Z" the front of yours? I have a set of stock wishbones that have been split and I just want to run a stock front as they are easier to find around here. also did you use a vega style box (side to side) or the firewall area one with front to back steering?

i kicked the front up and fishplated it .. im using traditional front to back steering . found a nice one that i have no idea what teh hell it came out of from the swap meet

my dad gave me the go ahead to pick it up. he doesn't know i'm building it in his honor though.
