Project Polar Bear: '89 V2500 Suburban

I don’t know what the deal is with the PM function. It hasn’t worked in a long time and I’ve looked at the settings. Any suggestions how to fix it?

The error that I get is this:

larry.PNG

When I look at privacy settings, toward the bottom I have the option of allowing new conversations only from people I'm following (vs. allowing it from anyone).

privacy.PNG

Not sure if this is your issue, but it's my only idea at this point. I could try replying to last year's PM and see if that is different.
On some threads I see a "contact" button next to your name, on others it is missing. But either way I cannot use it.

We've taken that Naturita route 2 years in a row now, wouldn't mind heading out through Silverton and Durango. It's 90 minutes longer, but we've been wanting to see the train (though we don't have time to ride it this trip). So...meet up Monday morning in Durango?

I like that Naturita route though. Pretty cool drive and that one small town on the UT/CO border cracks me up as just about every building in town is a bar. Probably mostly weed shops by this year :haha:

Breakfast in Durango probably won’t work as the entire reason we’re going to Hovenweep is because the MIL wants to check the place out. We’ll probably get there too late Sunday to look around so that leaves Monday to check the place out.

I’ll look at settings again but anybody can email me any time…. [email protected]

Our Monday (5/23) schedule involves leaving Ouray and meeting up with Wade in Moab around 4 or 5PM (He's coming over from the Springs). We'll be a lot closer, so we will have more goof-off time that day. Durango looks to be 3 hrs from Moab, so I think meeting up for Luch would also work if you're busy at breakfast time. We'll just spend more time in the mountains and less time in the desert.

Lemme know what works, a lot of this trip's schedule has been left open, we'll figure it all out when we get there. ;)

Ah, man…. I gave the wrong email address :doah:

We’ll see if we can figure something out. Afraid Monday is going to be tight by the time we take our Hovenweep tour and hit the road with the goal of getting home by 8 pm.

Post some pictures!

Hehe, well not much to show these days. Just some recent pictures from a few weeks ago when we got a heavy wet spring snow. Used the Bear to take the little one to daycare as my car couldn’t get out of the driveway. Hit a detour on the way home to play in the muck. By noon the next day it was back to 65 degrees with no traces of snow anywhere

Nothing is really new with the ole Polar Bear other than I think it is time to replace the fuel pump already as it doesn’t like to start unless you cycle the key a couple times before cranking. Injectors don’t seem to be bleeding down so it has to be something with the pump. Probably throw a fresh clutch in it this summer too. I must have bent the clutch and pressure plate last time I had the engine out when I put the disk in backwards. The pedal hasn’t been right since :dunno:

I just went through this thread. Very impressive. I enjoyed every bit of it. :thumb:

Now, my question is.........What ever happened to the ticket you got, that you were supposed to go to court for, on April 12th of last year? Did that come out in your favor, or is there a warrant out for your arrest and you haven't been caught?

Oh, good grief! What a chit show that entire accident and ticket was. So, you know I bumped into the guy with my Silverado with Rob’s K5 on a trailer behind me. As stated earlier in this thread, this dude was driving rather erratically and then he left the scene of the accident. I called the po-po to report it just in case the dude appeared later blaming me for a hit and run and because I rear ended him I got the ticket even though he left the scene. The police were supposed to let me know if they ever found the guy.

So, a few months go by (and just before my court date) and I get a call from Allstate where someone filed a claim against me. I’m like what?? So I called Allstate and come to find out he report to the police it was a hit and run on Safeway’s parking lot about 5 that afternoon (the accident happened at 11ish AM) as I later found out. Even though he told the police it was a hit and run on the grocery store parking lot he told my insurance it happened on the street and that I left the scene! So now he told two different lies which neither were true. Luckily, I had reported this accident to my insurance that day along with a copy of the policy report so they knew he was feeding them a line of crap but non the less, they processed his claim. In the end, he was awarded $3900 for the complete loss of that old Buick LeSabre. My insurance said there would not be any rate increase due to the accident. Talk about BS!!

So, now I have this clowns name and call the cop shop to get a copy of his report that they were supposed to provide me months ago. Keep in mind, they were supposed to let me know if they ever found him and never did. Hell, he went into the police station later that day and they never told me. And if that is not bad enough, they didn’t even give him a ticket for leaving the scene of the accident. As I researched the guys name I found he is a registered sex offender with the State of Colorado so it makes me wonder what he had in the car that probably caused him to leave the scene. Whatever it was, he did not want the police to know about it. He was also driving his dead grandmothers car with expired tags. No tickets were issued to this a-hole. To make it worse, I have a bro in-law and nephew on the Canon City police force and they never said a peep and they were supposed to be looking for this old Buick. No wonder there are so many Canon cops and Fremont County Sheriffs on paid administrative leave. Their a bunch of hilljacks!

Next comes the court date and I just took a deferred sentence and made a $170 donation to a local charity as the fine. I was peeved but I figured okay, whatever…I got hosed.

Now fast forward to 6 months later and my insurance goes up $300 each 6 months, so basically $600 a year. Now I am really pissed and wished I had taken the accident to trial to force them to bring this guy into court just to share the pain. In the end, we had to dump Allstate after being with them for over 20 years and move to Liberty Mutual. We had like 7 vehicles, a house, an umbrella with Allstate and it was costing almost 10G’s a year with Allstate. Piss on Allstate and the Canon City Police Department and, especially, THIS GUY who is the meth head sex offender POS that caused the accident then left the scene only to get off scott free with $3900 from my insurance, $170 fine for me and the damage to my truck. It is a small community and one day I will run across him and it won’t be pretty

Now that you bring this up, it pisses me off all over again :haha:

Let me first, start off with, DAYUUUUUUM. That was the exact opposite of what I was expecting. I figured they caught this (fill in the blank__________), and that he'd be in jail and you with a little cash in your pocket for the damages.

But, it still doesn't surprise me on the outcome. This country, all over, is getting worse every second. Sorry to hear that justice wasn't served. But I do believe in Karma and he will get his one way or another.

And this is a very awesome build. I'm going the 7.4 Vortec route but I would have no problems doing a build with the 8.1 Vortec. Thanks for all the write-up on these projects.

On a side note, glad you got over it. :screwy:

That's Canon for you. I'm still surprised we never had to tow that munched Buick. Loosers like that dude are the norm for us to tow into our impound from the local Po Po. I spare them no mercy either. If they don't come in the day after we tow it, storage starts collecting at $37 per day. If it's still there after 3 days I can report the vehicle abandoned with the local PD where the owner gets tagged with another $300 fine and a trip to court for the ticket. If they still haven't surfaced to get their jalopy out of hock with us, after 60 days the law enforcement agency that had us tow it will apply for abandoned title and give us a bill of sale for the cost of towing and storage. It's ours to do with as we please. I picked up a 73 Pontiac Ventura hatchback for the cost of the tow. Larry brought it back to his place, we gutted it for the front suspension and disc brake setup, yanked the seats and some other tidbits for my Nova. We stuffed it with Larry's scrap and he took it off to get munched. Scrap was higher then and I think we got almost 80% of what I paid for it in scrap value.

Most cars aren't worth screwing with so we end up scrapping them to recoup or tow cost. But there usually are some goodies inside that people leave in the cars. Once it's ours then we pick them over. I picked up a 20v lithium cordless drill and sawzall out of one car.

But it's good guys like Larry that get screwed when he does the right thing. So again, no mercy when I have to deal with the deadbeats. It's actually one of the more enjoyable parts of my job. Not many things are more satisfying than listening to some drunk that's pissed off about the cost of the tow and telling them don't blame us, we didn't go out drinking and put a car in the ditch. Had they not been doing something stupid the cops wouldn't have called us in.
