I've got my suspension and drivetrain fairly dialed in on my rig but the motor is the main unknown. It currently have a SBC with an edelbrock performer intake, mallory hei dizzy and a quadrajet carb, the internals are unknown but seem to be stock, it runs decent and has no know problems other than poor off camber performance.

I have a chance to pick up a low mile 85 350 that I know is original and in good shape for free or cheap. I would like to convert it to run on propane using this kit off ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180265842958&viewitem=

I'm not looking for monster performance or good mileage. I want good off camber performance and a reliable and simple (ie none computer controlled) solution for fueling at all angles.

My plan at this point is to get this kit and install it on the new motor and toss it in and use my old motor to slowly build a mild small block designed around running on propane with a 12:1 comp ratio, high rise intake, propane specific cam ect.

My questions are:

What, if anything, is this kit missing?

Is anyone currently using this kit?

Anyone have a good kit they want to sell for a good price?

Do you see any glaring holes in my plan?

Do those who are running propane on a stock motor like it?

How much propane do you consume on an average day of wheeling?

Thanks guys :thumb:

That's a typical Impco set up... I'm running the same 425 and model E, but I'm running a VFF30 vacuum lock off instead of a 12v that your link shows...

Doesn't look as though it comes with tanks or brackets... That can set you back a couple hundred for two tanks and forklift brackets...

Propane is stupid simple, basically plug and play...

I got mine off a '80s chevy with a 402... Traded the guy a edlebrock that a buddy gave me... His truck was a 2wd garbage hauler and the mounted tank in the bed was bad... He didn't want to deal with it, so went back to gas...

I know a lot of guys running propane... Some kits and some pieced together... Everyone loves it... Runs every time at any angle...

Myself, I would research a bit and buy everything you need off CL or Ebay... It'll save you a lot of money...
