propane?

ive got a propane mixer that come off of one of my buddies engines he bought a couple years ago and i was wondering if it would be worth rebuilding and using. i think it is set up for a q-jet intake, it has impco and 425 on the top of it.

Yes, it has a Q-jet baseplate on it and if you're willing to deal with fuel availability it will be well worth your time.

yes impco 425 mixer is good. rebuild kits are cheap, theres like 3 moving parts in it. you will need a lockoff and vaporizer to make a propane system work though. mixer is a good start. you can loose the fuel pump though pressureized fuel doesn't need a pump. good at all angles

The base plate that's on there now is stock Q-jet, though someone may have drilled and tapped it to work with the mixer.

You can buy a squarebore (most carbs) to spreadbore (Q-jet and a few others) adapter that's cheap. As long as you have the hood clearance (on a K5 I'm sure you do) that's what I would do.

As for fuel, almost every truck stop type gas station will have propane. There are many random gas stations that have them too:

Also check any KOA campgrounds or the like. I have seen some regular trailer camping areas that offer it also. Good luck

nice right up in that link, I noticed he called the converter a regulator. its called a converter........(its cast in the aluminum housing too) it takes coolant from the engine and flows it through the converter where liquid propane is converted to gas. that ie an endothermic reaction it requires energy input IE heat. you'll want to bump your compression ratio to about 10:1 if you run strictly LPG. propane is about 110 octane

got another question

where can ya get the tanks at, been lookin all over yahoo and can't find none that i think will work. wanting to put under the bed and run the fill valve out to where the gas lids are on the bed.
