ok so ever since i put my 1991 L05 block in... there is no cam lobe for the mechanical fuel pump...

thus i have an electric... el cheapo from autozone... $20 unit..

guy was helping me on my truck getting it to idle and stuff... well great it was running good.. but secondaries bogged and the sort..

long story short he said maybe my fuel pump isnt keeping up... we did jet the carb...

so he gave me one.. it is out of a boat... a round long looking thing... he said it wasnt a high pressure but had volume to it.... well i put it in and it has been appearing to be running fine for a while...

until this weekend.. took my truck down the road and all was well... but heading back.. it started bucking, loosing power, etc... down shift.. as long as i wasnt on the throttle it was fine.. also idled fine.....

hit a traffic light left turn lane.. and sat there idling fine.. went through it and started bucking again... got it home..

im thinking it is the fuel pump...

so what do you recommend for fuel pump..

my motor isnt a beat but it has the following

1991 L05 roller block out of a caprice police car
1996 vortec heads
comp cams extreme 4x4 cam Click here for cam specs
holley truck avenger 670cfm

I'm running a [FONT=&quot]AC Delco #EP381, 50-60gph @ 65-75psi. It is for a 1996- vortec motor. It fits in my 1990 stock in tank fuel float/pump assembly. I run the 96 vortec heads, comp cam(extreme energy XE256H), maxed out pressure on a 350 tbi fuel pod, with a BB lower unit. Keeps up great.

I think my el cheapo is at 8psi.. remember im carb'd

Holley blue pump and matching regulator

i have heard mixed feelings on these.. heard they die a lot.... :dunno:

check fuel filter first... and also put pump on dedicated power if it’s not already. Not through the factory power that works with (and through) the oil sensor or fuel rely. Long story, but I battled this for the last month…changed every part related to the fuel system only to find dedicated power wire fixed my issues…

edit - being your truck is a 78.. you dont have that stuff. mine was a in tank pump... using factory wiring..

I would also check the fuel filter.

I am running TBI with an Airtex E8094 on the stock fuel pump wire. 12-17 PSI, 45-50 GPH.

easy,

Carter Gold fuel pump, No regulator needed. Used lots of times with very good luck:

Price varies, but you can pick one up from jegs/summit for around $80
Napa stocks them for $95

I bought that pump in the first link, the P4594 to put in my 86 F-250 a few years ago but I never used it because I sold the truck instead of fockin' with it. I have it somewhere in my shed and it's still in the box and the wires are still in plastic. Shoot me a PM Rootbreaker and maybe we can work out a cheap deal.
