Proper stud for 700R-4 torque rod.

I have the original 3 rods to my 700 transmission, but it seems I've lost the proper hardware to mount the long rod to the bellhousing. You can see what I've been using, but would like to get a proper 2-ended stud to mount it. It seems I don't have the right one. This is all 3/8-16.

Any input?

EDIT: what's shown is the long rod to the T-case side mount. The 2 rods to the bottom of the transmission inspection cover are bolted up by the engine mounts.

From what I remember, I saw one with the flange head to the transmission. But I don't personally believe that it would be a problem to use a flat washer under the head to keep it from digging into the aluminum.
Just have to verify the length, of course, to avoid bottoming out or too few of threads.
The one in your picture looks to be too short. IMO.
 
If finding one in a boneyard fails ya could use one of those in your pic and use a die to get the desired thread length towards the fixed nut head (while keeping enough shank length and cut off and dress the remaining length to what it needs to be ) and it will be just as an OEM piece.
As said above use a washer on the fixed head as well as the final retaining nut for the rod and you’ll be sett’n pretty.

I hadn't really considered that, but you're right that could be faster than locating the right thing. It could also be achieved by welding a flange nut to a piece of all-thread, but any all-thread I have laying around is probably lousy quality. I like the idea of the smooth shank through the bellhousing, so I may go in this direction.

The transmission is coming out, so it should be easy to find all relevant dimensions.

They are M10 flange bolts around 40mm long. At least on my setup, 85 K5, 700R4.

I'm talking about the bolts that pass through the bellhousing and thread into the engine block. You may be referring to the inspection cover bolts or even the oil pan bolts. The 700R-4 is metric, but the SBC is not.
 
Really, all of my bellhousing bolts seem short. The bellhousing is 3/4", so these engage less than 5/8", especially the ones that hold the harness and the dipstick. Bolt is 1 1/8" overall.20250827_162109.jpg
 
When I look up replacement bolts, they seem to list 1 1/2". The blind holes in the block measure just over 1" deep, and these bolts are 1 1/4", implying I could go almost 1/2" longer.
 
I guess as long as there is a thread engagement depth of 1-1/2 times the diameter of the bolt threaded area ( industry standard ) all will be well - if needed ya could “adjust” bolt depth with thick washers that would also help protect the aluminum and give you more bolt options at the hardware store.

One of our better hardware stores have the black oxide coated bolts with a shoulder-washer already made on to them. They ain’t cheap but are very quality and look great.
