for the winter. Right now I have a cab that is sitting in my driveway. It has door shells on it, with no windows, etc. Right now, I just have a "waterproof" car cover on it, and it has just about lost its water "repellence". I`m wondering what would be the best way to cover this thing up for the winter, to keep the elements out, while not ruining the paint on the cab. Any suggestions?

You could put a tarp under the cover, you just need to make sure that the wind has NO way of moving it around, as anything that contacts the paint, will wear through if there is any repetitive movement.

That`s what I`m afraid of, as it can get real windy here...

I found some decent ones from empire. This cover was a replacement cover for a custom cover that cost three times as much and started leaking water and collecting dust under the cover in less than a year. My Empire cover is 4 months old, has survived numerous strong thunderstorms and seering Texas sun, and so far is exceeding my expectations. I have 3 cars under cover, soon the other two will be covered by Empire.

If you use blankets, make sure they stay completely dry. Water getting through the tarp and holding it on the paint can cause some damage as well.

you could always just take the windshield out and doors off, buy some suspension seats and let it sit out in the rain like I do...

I got tired of taking a tarp on and off.

I used to shrink my bosses convertible top on his Saab for the winter back in the day..... gotta watch tho, amateurs can set chit on fire pretty easy.... :haha:

I've got 100 boats to do, coming up SHORTLY... :doah:

if i have a truck w/a good interior and a busted window i cut a piece of heavy visqueen(sp?) and open the door and wrap the upper door w/the ''plastic'' & shut the door on it and duct tape it along the bottom.....some adhesive remover may be needed to get duct tape residue off when you remove it...its easier than covering the whole rig & getting it tight enuff not to flap or blow off completly....i assumed you still had a windshield & rear glass...if not, a different route would be in order.

edit for ryoken: that boat wrap stuff, does it take heat to tighten it up...how much is the stuff? and can you wrap something and leave it for yrs or can condensation get inside or is it an airtight seal when its put on?

There are many types of breathable fabrics available. The big difference in price between the cheap covers (and tarps) and the good covers is due to the breathable fabrics. Never ever cover a truck with a non-breathable cover. Condensation build-up under the cover can do lots of damage.

I have the max cover from empire its a 3 layer cover made from Tyvek developed by DuPont.
