Looks like my brake proportioning valve is the issue. Does anyone know an aftermarket replacement that will work with an 89 Jimmy. The vehicle has front disc and rear drums. The vehicle does not have abs or the load sensing proportioning valve. The original valve is located on the cross member in front of the motor, not next to the master cylinder. I would like a valve that will work with the stock setup and maybe the possibility of having it work when I swap axles and do a rear disc conversion. If you only know of an OEM replacement that would be fine too. I just need to get it up and running for emissions. I also don't want to have to do any brake line modifications. Any suggestions?

These guys will have what you need. http://inlinetube.com/

More specifically part number VCT105 should be what you need even though it says 1981-1987 (think new body in 1988 so 81-91 for blazer and burb).

I replaced the proportioning valve and both rear drums, wheel cylinders, shoes and bled the brakes. Problem fixed.....I have rear brakes again : ) Thanks for everyone's help.

I called them and the tech said he thought they would list the 89 if it was compatible for that part, but it doesn't. I ended up buying one from online at Gearheadworld.com They charged $59 for the part including shipping. They even shipped it priority. Not a bad deal for the disc/drum valve. The front brake lines had a little trouble threading to the valve. I had to completely remove the front left brake line and take the proportioning valve off to get the lines to thread properly. I think the thread pitch/size is slightly different, but it worked and no leaks. : )

if you are gunna do rear disc eventually you will need to eliminate the combination valve or modify it internally....it changes the residual pressure from front to rear.
im removing mine and teeing the 2 front brakelines into one then dropping it down to the center of the axle via brake hose then teeing to each wheel on the axle like the rear??
then adding an adjustable proportioning valve for manual brake biasing and a lineloc for my ebrake.

I was regretting putting any money into the stock 10bolts because I have long term plans to do axle swaps and a rear disc conversion. Oh well, a bad day working on something you love to do is better than a good day at work.
