I have read alot about prop valves and I am confused. I am going to install a disc brake kit on my 81 k10 sub 14blt. And my prop valve is on the crossmember under the eng/tranny. I was just going to replace it with a new one for the hell of it. But I have seen threads talking about adjustable prop valves. If I bought one of these from Jegs or Summit, do I install it and remove the original one or do they work in conjunction? I will have a 14blt rear and a 10blt 1/2 ton front, will I need to change anything else. THANKS

Your gonna need an adjustible. Install instead of. If not your rear brakes will lock up real easy. Its fun to have a l ebrake, but not ever time you hit the pedal.

If I remove the factory prop valve and install an after market adjustable one, how? The factory one has like 3 or 4 lines coming in or out. The adjustable ones I see only have 1 in and 1 out??

Can't speak for the 3/4 ton conversion but on a typical 1 ton conversion a lot of people plumb the adj prop valve into the rear brake line outta the MC. The front line is plumbed outta the MC down to a T and then to each side of the truck- no prop valve on the fronts. I have mine plumbed this way and the brakes do work great however I experience some fad when I'm flexing hard or are boncing around severly. Trying to figure that out still.

When I swapped in my 14 bolt and still had the 44 in front and all stock brake components I didn't like my brakes very much (with drums on rear). I have 4 wheel disc now.

You said your prop valve in on the crossmember under your engien and tranny????? You sure about that? Shoudl be on the front crossmember under the harmonic balancer.
