It's been said before but it's worth saying again..... don't ignore safety equipment when you are working on your truck.

It's been many years since my last run-in with metal in the eye... but even WITH goggles things can still go wrong. I got lucky (again) and the doctor was able to remove a tiny metal speck from my eye today and with some anti-biotic drops I will be fine with no vision loss (I still scored slightly better than 20/15 vision on the eye chart! :waytogo:).

Monday night I felt a small nick as something hit my eye and wrote it off to a piece of grinding debris that would flush out on it's own. By this morning it was obvious that it wasn't coming out without a doctor's help.

Eye numbing drops are amazing! I'm pretty squeemish when it comes to people messing with my eyeballs with sharp instruments, but I couldn't feel a thing and the particle coming out was like the relief of pulling out an annoying splinter.

Be careful out there lads! :doah:

Glad to hear! Had a run in last year with the ER for similar stuff. Not fun at all!

Were you wearing glasses or goggles?

Lotsa folks I watch work have a tendency to look under on occasion which reveals a small gap under some glasses that debris can get ya...

Only got one set of eyes fellas (and ladies too). Be careful!!!

I had an encounter with grinding debris this weekend that has me thinking glasses aren't quite enough. Something found it's way up under the bottom of the lenses. No hospital trip, it flushed itself out, but I think some goggles are on the list of things to buy.

I was wearing glasses at the time. Goggles would have been even better, obviously.

It's worth it to do the common sense stuff too. Don't position yourself so that the grinder is throwing sparks and debris at your face, and keep the safety shield on the grinder adjusted so that it's helping to move debris safely away from you.

It takes extra effort sometimes, but remember that your build progress drops to zero while you sit in the emergency room waiting area. :)

i picked up a full face shield and wear the safety glasses under that even when runing the grinder on anything other than flat metal clean up on the work bench . to many angles in the fenders or cab fro debri to bounce off of and find a way in.

pulled a broken strand of wire out of my cheek this past weekend that came off of a wire cup on my angle grinder....:eek1:

I wear glasses too and have had lots of grinding debris bounce off of the lenses...

I gotta get better at using my goggles and full face shield more often....

QFT. The full face shield + glasses is the only way to go when you're working on anything that isn't clamped to a flat work surface, IMHO.

Inconvenient as hell, but not as inconvenient as the other possibilities.

Ya I've already had my grinder spit in my face and bite my hand 4 stitches latter I learned my lesson no creative grinding and use the extra handle no mater how much a PITA it is to swap over every other minute

Glad you're ok Greg. Eye injuries are freakin scary! Be safe brother.

After someone's last big grinder run-in, i ordered a full face off ebay. I've had too much stuff bounce off my cheek and under glasses....and hate goggles. THe full face is way easier to throw on one handed.

Its worht the $40 or 50.

I like to direct huge spark showers at my face with the grinder, keeps my face warm in the winter.... :pimp: what? not a good idea? :dunno:

in all seriousness, glad it was taken care of bud.. eye sh*t can be scary... I'm in the market for a new face shield myself since getting the buffer/wire wheel of doom..... eyeballin a couple on eghey.. thinking I may go 3M...
