I put a 305 (yeah, I know, but it was CHEAP!) w/tbi out of a 91 Camaro in my K5, and like an idiot sold the serpentine setup off of it and put the v-belts that were on the trashed 350 on it, for "simplicity:rolleyes:". I did use my 305's alternator though, put the v-belt pulley on it. Also, I used the waterpump off the 350, since the 305 one was reverse rotation. My problem is getting the freaking pulleys aligned. It is driving me NUTS:mad:. The ps pump was sticking out farther than the water pump pulley, shimmed out the water pump pulley with 3 washers on each bolt (just to test it) and got that aligned, also still lined up pretty well with the crank pulley, but now the alternator is way off. Originally the water pump and alternator pulleys were aligned farily well. I have heard that you could line 10 long water pumps up and they'd all be different lengths, could that be the root of the problem? I'm going to try to shim the alternator pulley tomorrow, but I am just wondering if this is a common problem, or is mine just being a pia?

It is extremely common, GM used a ton of offsets in their pulleys. One solution is to find a complete motor and swap the accessories (not just brackets) across. PS pump as well, because those mount a variety of ways, and the water pump, and so on. :)

This is why I ended up with the semi-serpentine setup off of a late 80's Chev Monte SS.
