I'm gonna pull the sbc tomorrow morning out of my 78 k5 and drop in the new long block...

It's been 7 years since i did this...
Help me remember...
I know how to do this, as it's not that hard....

Do i seperate the torque converter from the flex plate or just pull the motor out...
I do want to reuse the tourque converter so i need to be carefull with it...
As memory serves me i just need to take the three bolts off that hold the tourque converter to the flex plate.. (bellhousing too of course) Turning the motor over by hand if needed to get to them...

Is that correct?

Yes, that's correct. Take the bolts out to disconnect the flywheel from the torque converter and everything should be fine. Otherwise you would get ATF all over and probably damage the TC if not the trans if you twisted the engine pulling it away.

Thanks,
Needed the re-assurance...

Have limited time to get this out and back in...
For some reason my wife wants to see me this weekend...
Apparently while working on the blazer doesnt count as "time spent together"

Tell her to come help :D

Sounds like you got it all worked out. Good luck and maybe take some pics ;)

pretty much sums up the tranny disconect, remember ground stap....i always seem to have engine tethered to truck w/ ground while its hanging....put it back when done...i used to install electronics in cars and spent 3hrs chasing engine noise,, rca down 1 side power on other...i moved the ground...made sure stuff was 90* were it crossed in amp rack...turned out 2 be that little ground strap from back of head to firewall!

if uve done it b4, just like riding a bike...it will all come back 2 u

You know wheni pulled the motor out of my truck i found that. Everytime i've pulled a motor it's never had that. Kinda weird...

I put it back also ;)

hardest part of the whole deal is removing the last few bell-housing bolts. that one on the passenger side top is a PITA. i used 4 feet on socket extensions, last time. looked funny, but worked.

I once tried to unbolt the flywheel with the oil pan in place, but the clearance was just too tight for my hand and tool.

ground strap was already mentioned...i generally spend more time checking all around the engine for hiding wires and hoses than i do pulling the engine.
