I have located someone with a M1008, who has agreed to sell me the axles out of it. I haven't seen them yet they are still under the original truck which is supposedly still being driven. Anything I need to look for as far as inspecting them before I close the deal?
Anything special I need to know about pulling them? Are leaf springs out of this truck good for anything?

TIA

On my CUCV M1009 the leafs are heavy duty compaired to the standard blazer.

The axles are standard K5 blazer 10b, nothing special execpt the gov lock in my opnion.

Sorry typo on my part. Its a M1008 Truck with D60 14B 4.56s and gov lock in the rear.

hey

ok its not a 1009, good. ALOT of people think the CUCV blazers come with the 1 tons, they dont. they have 10 bolts with 3.08 gearing, yuck. EVEN one of the major off-roading mags did a story on K5's and they themselves even quoted the m1009 blazer as being highly desireable due to its 14 bolt rear, dana 60 front, 4.56 gears and a rear Detroit............WRONG. Anyway nothing special about pulling them, bring some PB Blaster or equivelant and soak down all bolts, bring a Breaker bar cuz the bolts and nuts will REALLY be on there. A TORCH would make things really easy for you but thats prolly not an option.

It should have a Detroit in the rear. Make sure it still has the D60 in the front. It is cast into the pumpkin next to the cover, it should have 60F. Also it will only have 3 u bolts on the front axle.

True, I've heard stories of guys buying these trucks not knowing what they are looking at and ASSUMING the front is a Dana 60. Sometimes these front axles get pulled and an 8 lug 10 bolt is swapped in and some people dont even catch it. DONT BE THAT GUY.

Thanks for the heads up. Is the "60F" to the right or left of the cover? on top or in front? and is it three U bolts on both sides or just on the pumpkin side?

Also what about the springs? I was thinking that for speed purposes I could just pull the shackle bolts and leave the springs on the axles. That way I could take my time with the U bolts at home. Are the springs good for any of the longer spring lift swaps I see people writing about?

just check the knuckles.

d60 is kingpin.

you could use the rears for the front, known as the 52 spring swap. the fronts probably wont be useful to you

It's at the bottom on the right IIRC. 2 u bolts on the driver side and one on the passenger side. There are studs threaded into the cast in spring perch for the inside up against the pumpkin that go through the inside of the spring plate. Also like mentioned there are no ball joints.
