Going to start tearing the engine out next weekend for the new 383. Easiest way to remove the front fenders and grille and pull it out that way? It’s a 2 ton hoist so not worried there and I’m leaving the trans and t-case in.

I’ve never pulled a front clip, just too much work unless you’re giving the entire engine compartment a facelift.

On 81+ trucks if you disconnect the spring assist arms the hinges will allow the hood to go another 6” or so higher. Take the tires off and get the truck as low as possible and pull the motor.

One of the neatest ideas I’ve seen was to get a cheap kiddie pool to go under the motor to catch coolant spills.

I pull hood and core support at a bare minimum. I leave the tires on and aired. It’s just easier to get to engine mounts et al without that stuff in the way

I used to pull the hood then the rest of the front clip. The last one I did, I left the hood on and just pulled the grille and core support.

Pre 80 pull the hood and radiator use a 2 ton HF style engine hoist.
I pull tires larger than 31 and put on body stands, I can still roll under on a creeper.

On my own vehicles I have never removed the core support, grille, or fenders, Just take the hood off, and of course remove the radiator and I remove any accessories that will go on the new engine.

I have helped others to remove the front clip or core support and grille etc. on their vehicles but never on my own.

I too leave the tires on and aired up and sometimes adjust air pressure to lower the vehicle or put small roller tires on to lower the height.

Maybe if I popped the tires off I could be able to pull it out without taking the core support off but it’s iffy. Truck already scrapes the roof going in and the hood is just shy of touching fully open. Only issue with the core support is it’s rusted to crap on the drivers side so it might never go back in.

I like the core support out so you don’t have to lift the engine at full extension

If you’re hillbilly like me, cut the core support and weld it back in later
