I have an 85K5 with a bad ignition. I was looking at it today and I have no idea how to get it out. Do you have to take apart the entire steering column?

you have to take most of the stuff behind the steering wheel out witch can be a pain in the a**. you have to compress the lock ring and take a clip off the steering shaft and not let it fly up and hit you in the nose. takeing it off is fairly easy but putting it back on is a differnt story. they have a tool for it but i couldnt get it to work. then its simple pin that holds it in pull the pin and it slides out newer could be a little differnt last one i took apart was a 74 olds

PS sorry if i didnt help much and my grammar is crap i have had a few beers tonigh

and the directions with the new tumbler will explain it pretty well, i just did mine not to long ago

What is the name or part number of the tool to remove the lock ring? Or, how have others removed it?
