Pulling Motor, New one in! New flex pics on last pg.

Having the cooling passages at the firewall side of the heads blocked off is normal. Something about the way the coolant flows through the engine but I don't know exactly. Some aftermarket intake manifolds don't even have coolant passages back there.

Thats normal? Wow. Didnt know that. Why are two black and the others rust. No wonder I couldnt get the rust out of the radiator. I flushed it like ten times.

The middle ones are not coolant, they are for exhaust gasses to flow to the EGR and to heat up the intake air for better fuel atomization when cold. That's why they are black.

That's because the coolant flows from the water pump through the block, then enters the head in the back (and a little between each cylinder), then flows back to the front through the head and out the intake into the radiator. So the rear intake passages are not used unless it's a high RPM road race engine or something.

Also, those middle black passages are exhaust crossover. It's to help heat the intake up quicker on cold days.

Hey guys, Hope all is well. Well, When pulling off the thermostat housing, The bolt stripped. Can a machine shop fix this? Also, Should I have them hot tank it to get it clean or how do I clean this? Thanks guys!!

just keep an eye on craigslist. you can find used manifolds for like $60-$100 all the time. probably would be easier/cheaper then the headache of getting it retapped.

unless you just want to retap it your self which shouldnt be a big deal if you have a tap an die set. you just might have to bump it up to the next size to make sure you get good bite, which would mean new screw.

lets see what others think tho

isn't this from the motor your not keeping? If you need an intake for the new motor, ditch this one and grab an Edelbrock. You're already spending the money, upgrade the intake.

thats why i was thinking gettin a new one vs fixing it. might not be worth the hassle at this point.

i didnt even think bout new, i was just thinking bout cheaper! lol

i've got that same manifold only not in the tbi style. cant complain but its been awhile since my truck has been alive so i dont remember too much .lol

Hey Jeff, I would just use a tap to clean up that thread hole and use a longer bolt in that position.

Let me know what I can do to help you. I have a flexible schedule this week.

Remember, I have just about any tool you will be needing so let me know what you need. A spare air compressor and air tools are a phone call away.

Well, I just loaded the old engine in the bed of my my truck. I'm getting a new rebuilt engine tomorrow. $1450 w/ 1yr 12000 mile warranty. The builder says it has 10 percent more horsepower because he uses flat top pistons. Don't know the truth about that. But whatever, its new. I will post somw pics tomorrow. I guess the only thing thing to add a little hp is going to be some headers, smog legal of course. Don't know witch ones yet. I have a grand to blow on fitting and a radiator and the little things to go into the engine. I can't wait.

A member: bradshawtech(Tom) is going to weld in the ORD steering brace for me. Thanks Tom, I owe you.

Thanks guys for all your input!

Well, I picked up my new engine yesterday. Also, I ordered these:D They will be here Tuesday. Updates to come. Also, Somehow the stud on my new water pump broke. I will be taking back today, If they let me.
