Hey Guys,
I need to change my head gaskets and I'm gett'n old & lazy, plus I'd like to get it done fast. So I'm thinking about renting power tools. What do you think, Impact wrench, air ratchet, or ??

You don't own any already ? You gotta buy some , climbing in and out that engine bay is going to make you too tired to turn wrenches :)

I may get some argument but my dewald cordless impact makes life just a little better. I could pull heads in half the time.

If you only plan on doing the heads...I wouldn't worry about it. They'd help with disassembly, but you can't (well, not supposed to) use air tools to put everything back together.

For me air tools in the engine compartment usually are more of a novelty. I tend to only use the die grinder and drill. Every now and then I'll use an air ratchet or impact gun.

The bolts in the motor should spin fairly easy once you break them free. An air ratchet might take 30 minutes off the time...if that.

I'm not so concerned with the head bolts, it the exaust manifolds:o

From my experiance, an exaust manifold bolt will come out fairly easy with a ratchet. I'd actually prefer to use a ratchet since I'd be able to tell if it were getting any harder to turn.

And if it doesn't want to come out easy, it will break long before it puts up a fight.
