So if I get my new tranny this week I was thinking of doing the swap this weekend and I couple of questions came to mind.

Should I pull the tranny and t-case as a whole unit as I will be replacing it with a tranny and t- case or should I disassemble and remove/replace seperatly. I do have floor jacks and a tranny jack.

While I am there should I look at replacing the bolts (bellhousing, crossmember, etc) and only thinking of this cause not sure what stresses these bolts may have seen.

Should I replace the mounts as it has been possibly 40 years that these mounts have been in place. Although I want to replace all the mounts down the road as in the engine, body, tranny when time and funds are more available and just really want to see this rolling. If the PITA factor is to great for later I will see about doing it now.

Part of the plan is to run the tranny jack up and strap tranny down with ratchet staps, unless there is a better way, remove the bolts, lower t-jack then jack up front of rig then pull it out from under. I know the th350/203 combo is heavy so was thinking keep it low. Then reverse for install.

It been years since I pulled a tranny and I don't think I have ever pulled a combo out of one of my rigs, so just looking at some of the possible pitfalls in store. Any heads up is appreciated. Thanks.

I just pulled my 700r4/np241 together by myself. All I used was a motorcycle jack under the tranny. I did start out with a scissor style tranny jack under the 241 and moto jack in place when I removed the crossmember. But once I saw how balanced it all was it was easier just working the one jack. Not sure what kind of tranny jack you have but I know mine would not handle the long combo. and once down just drug the two out from under the track on the ground (getting deep sump pan so wasn't worried about it).

As far as mount I was able to get crossmember mount and both motor mounts for less than 25$ from AZ when I did mine a couple months back.

1) Yes. If you have a decent jack, it will save time and effort dropping the whole assembly.

2) If you want to, but not necessary. These are not torque-to-yield bolts, so unless they show signs of damage, reuse them.

3) Might as well. Mounts are cheap, and old mounts that may not appear damaged may be past their prime. A new mount can make a big difference for not much money. Either way, the tranny mount is easy to replace with the tranny still installed, so if you want to hold off, no big deal.

These are among the easiest transmissions to remove, just make sure that everything is supported and it should go smoothly.

If the tranny mounts look really really bad, consider reusing them on a temp basis. I don't like one set of mounts to see all the load.
So, if you replace a set of flattened transmission mounts with new tall ones, those mounts will tend to try to hold up some of the engine weight.

Really old mounts, I like to change all at once to even the load.

I'd do them one at a time, the NP-203's are ingots, and will drop to the ground first, being much heavier than the tranny..the NP-205's are heavy too...the aluminum transfer cases are much lighter and will balance better and could be left attatched to the tranny, but I think its a lot easier unbolting them and removing them individually...it can be done in one peice, but its hard enough dragging them out from under the truck one at a time alone..

The tcase should only be like 6 bolts to face off. Plus linkage
