Pulling with a 4.7L Dakota?

A Dakota can't handle the weight. Much too narrow and too light. Heck, even a 1/2 ton is stressed trying to pull a K5

Just for example, I pull a the jeep in my sig, which weighs about the same as most K5's with a 1/2 ton extended cab, with the wieight distributing hitch, I don't have any problems with it at all.

How close to a Jeep Cherokee is a Dakota? there is a guy on towrig.com that pulls his YJ on a trailer with a Hemi GC and says it does fine.

The dakota is more than likely a little longer, but the motor the original poster is asking about is smaller. I would rather have the 5.7 Hemi for towing, rather than the 4.7L

Sponge's YJ on 33's is a LOT lighter than the posters big block K5 on 38's.

Pulling a fullsize behind a midsize truck is asking for trouble IMHO. I would tow my Toyota behind one no problem, but i would definately not load up my K5 behind one.

I agree, I would pull it for short distances going slow with the dakota, but to pull it for a few hours to go wheeling, I would get at least a 1/2 ton, extended cab would be great.

We pulled a K5 on a 16' car trailer down the mountains back to camp once with a Dakota... all I can say is 5 mph max speed if you want to live thru the trip.

Its not what it is rated to tow...its how heavy it is. Flat towing only really works if the truck being towed is significantly less heavy.

Still not somethign i would try.
