I have a buddy that needs to replace the tank in his '96 bronco. We were just at the junk yard to pick up a new sending unit and fuel pump and we managed to find one that looked pristine. The pump looks brand new and the inside of the tank is beautiful. The only problem is that the junk yard punctures all the tanks.

My question is, how much would it cost to repair the puncture? He can get a brand new tank for $90 and they want $30 for the punctured tank so the cost would have to be pretty low to make it worth it. All the shops around here are closed for the weekend so I figured I'd hit up the knowledge base here to see what you guys could tell me. :thumb:

At that point I'd just get a new one.

The fuel pump went out on my bronco too. How much of a pain is pulling the tank?

Yeah, we came to the same conclusion. He just bought the tank a few minutes ago. Guess I get to put that in tomorrow. :P

pulling the tank was way easier than I thought it would be. There are 4 bolts on the front and back of the skid plate (8 total) and that is what holds the tank in place. Then it's just a matter of disconnecting the fill hose, electrical connector and 2 fuel lines.

The hardest part is the fuel lines. Those connectors can be a pain in the butt. We decided to disconnect both lines by the fuel filter first and that let us fish the lines out enough so that we could drop the tank and then get to the lines that were on top of the tank a lot easier.

Since ya'll monkeying around with the fuel tank and all that, I highly recommend replacing the rubber lines with Marine Grade Fuel lines, they are suppose to be more Ethanol resistant.

since this is a '96 it's fuel injected and already has all the fancy fitting type fuel lines. :D
