doesnt work. it appears the front axle solenoid/unit/thing isnt engaging.

anybody have experience with this system? Im looking for a way to troubleshoot the actuator.

Does the actuator run off vacuum? All it shows in my chiltons is removing and installation of it. Doesn't say how to test, but I'll keep looking.

The one went out in my old 96, i think a new one was like 200 installed, it was winter and cold out. I didnt have a garage i just wanted 4x4 back. sorry im no help

just came back in from working on it...man its cold out there!

this one is also a cable unit on the axle. looks like it goes up to a vacuum diaphragm?

Thanks for looking ZJ, btw, its a GMC jimmy/blazer.

You should be able to compress the actuator with a c-clamp to hold it into 4x4. Those vacuum actuators are a total pain, and it would be a good idea to consider one of the locking cable options that eliminates it.

My old S10 Blazer always had issues with the actuator, and I would usually just put a block of wood and a c-clamp on it to force it to stay locked in.

As cold as its been here the last week, I'd say you have some frozen moisture in your vaccuum system. Left my rear window down the other night and even with the dry cold air we are having it was frozen down and had to be parked facing the sun for a while before it would go up.

welcome to the board Barc!

this particular rig has had this problem for some time, prior to this ungodly cold snap.

moving the cable by hand is a good idea. I'll try that.
