those must be those new subs i've heard about. The square ones with the red x in the middle. Too cheap for my taste
 
Whats up with my pics not showing up, I loaded them from My Member Gallery. I click view pic, then copy the link out of the address bar. I just reloaded theem see if that works.
 
dunno... They work fine for me! System looks pretty sweet. What ya got for tweets/mids?
 
I got some old pioneer 6x9's, a set of 4" L.A., and 3 sets of Boss tweeters and theyl sound pretty good. Later upgrades will be (2) JL 61/2 Component sets, 2 new 6x9 and keep the Boss tweeters & 4" L.A. speakers
 
I've heard good things about the W6v2-series. Basically uses a lot of the W7 technology, but removes some of the really esoteric stuff to keep the costs down to a more reasonable level.

I was thinking about using a set of the 12" (or so) W6v2s when I re-install "the system" into the K5. Maybe power them with the JL Audio 1000/1 amp??? :thinking:
 
I have had the old and new series W6's and the new one's kick a$$. yea that 1000/1 will push them REALLY good, maybe to good.:shocked: How many you planning on running? A 500/1 will work perfect for 2 and it's half the price. I had a 500/1 on my two 10's and it pushed them fine. I went with the Kenwood because i got it cheap and it's a good amp. I have plans on adding a third sub. JL amps have true watts and at 12-14.4 volts it will run 500 Watts and it wont flux like other amps. Also checkout the JBL amps i think they 750.1 amp it would be good for 2 or 3. Even checkout the Kenwood I got it works awsome on my two 10's. Got my amp on Ebay for cheap.
 
I was thinking about four 12W6v2s running off the 1000/1.... running a full-convertible K5 makes it really hard to preserve the lower octaves of music, so it tends to require "brute force" solutions subwoofer-wise..... :thinking:
 
How are you planning to do your box if your going to make full convertible? I was thinking of ideas of making my box waterproof. I was thinking like a bandpass box instead of carpet use something like rhino liner. Wow (4) 12's, no wonder you are going convertible you couldn't keep the top on.:D That 1000/1 would be nice, but you 1600 RMS watts of subs. I think 2 of the Kenwoods would the best option to go with with those you have 1800-2000 watts of power instead of 1000 watts. You can get two Kenwoods for 500-600 dollars and one 1000/1 for 600-700 dollars, 750-900 dollars from a dealer and plus JL will ONLY warrenty there stuff if you it bought from a dealer. I have been down that road. Luckly I know the guy that owns the shop here in town.

I'm planning to mount them in a metal box sunk into the rear floor between the framerails. Obviously, I will need to use a heavy duty metal mesh over the top so that I can still walk on it, and then the vehicle gets period correct carpeting and interior trim.

Not building a "mudder" so I don't really care about waterproofing everything. It will be a stock looking interior with the old-school lowback seats and traditional upholstery....maybe even with the original patterned houndstooth inserts? :saweet:
 
That sounds cool do some pics when your done. Just watch for those rainy days. JL is very strict on Warrentying anything.
 
If your going for brute force, try a couple 13w7's and couple 1000/1's. Those things will hit HARD:rotfl::D:rotfl::D
 
I purchased an eDesign 10" sub for my SS and it hits nice! I have it powered by JL 500/1. I plan on getting one for the Blazer once I get some other things accomplished 1st.
