Putting ACC carpet on top of my bedliner. QUESTION: Which Soundproofing is best?

After reading around I've decided that I'm going to order a complete black carpet set for my '90 K5 with the red interior. Its just wayy to loud in there as I'm using it as my daily driver.

However, I don't want to stick stuff down to my bedliner. Products like dynamat, eva sound deadner, etc. require you to use adhesives, but I'd like to be able to remove everything to be able to use the bedliner.

I'm thinking I will get the mass backing with the carpet from ACC: http://www.accmats.com

If I need to make it "stick" (i.e., on the wheelwells), I might use velcro instead of adhesive to make it removeable.

I also might do the memory foam idea that mhulrman used in the back for "camping" purposes :thumb:

Just wondering if you guys think this is the way to go, or if you have any other suggestions worth considering :woot:

thanks guys

I'm considering something. Then again I no longer drive it a lot or on road trips very far unless I'm going wheeling or something.

Only trouble I have is spending the money they want on carpet kits knowing I'll get it dirty.

Which Soundproofing did you use and how much did you spend?

Dynamat? Eva Sound deadner? Brown bread? etc, etc.

I'm looking to do everywhere except the rear floor. What brand did you go with? Which is more affordable? What works really good? Any tips/advice would be appreciated

Cargo area is the largest wide open "boom" space. If you're doing the rest of it you might as well do it too.

well the plan would be to put carpet and mass backing down there (from ACC). The rest of the truck however, I was thinking I might put some variation of Dynamat. I just don't want to stick that stuff to the rear bed is all.

Another thought I have is using high quality carpet underpadding... would that stuff not work well as a sound deadener? Best of all is that it would be free, and I have more than enough for the blazer.

We put it down in the basement before the flood... had to pull it all up to let it dry and ended up putting linoleum down instead

I do kinda sometimes contemplate having a place put MORE Rhino Liner in mine. The guys did a decent job but it's not terribly thick. 1/8" or so. Thinking if we doubled it the sound deadening would go up a lot.

not a bad idea if thats all you want.. I'm thinking comfort for the dogs and in case I end up sleeping back there when I go camping. Not to mention it would also be quite a bit warmer back there in the winter.

My idea with the carpet and mass backing is that I can simply remove and fold it up if I need to use it as a cargo bed or I'm worried about wrecking the carpet (i.e., when the top is off, using it as a truck)

this is where my logic is coming from..

Good point.

Remember I don't live in Cold Ass, Canada.:D

If I was sleeping in it I'd bring a mattress or something.

My parents had a '76 K5 before me and always had a foam mattress they made that fit in the back with the rear seat folded forward. They camped like that before my arrival.

Reminds me of this article:

not a bad idea either..

ahhhhh beautiful write up in a wheeler mag not about a HEEP lol. but definatley not made for our -40c before the wind chill

When its that cold you need a really good sleeping bag and maybe a battery powered space heater or something.. good point though. I doubt I will be sleeping in the blazer during that time of the year though, but ya never know! lol.

Have you thought about LizardSkin? Apply it to the undercarriage after you clean it real good and you should be good to go.

Interesting, never heard of it. I would need a good compressor though, to spray it on?

You have this whole article?

Its on the 73-87.com website.. here's the direct link:

Do that with some mass backing on the carpet and then this stuff http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/products/ccf

then this stuff on top of it http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/products/mlv

That should produce a really dead interior.

Could be labour intensive and pricey, thanks for the input though. I'll read it over and do some figuring

Thank for the welcome man, I will become a full member when the moneys not so tight.

I saw lizard skin on the powerblock on the weekends on spike, and on two guys garage they sprayed it on their roadster, I also saw it on stay davids newer gearz show, supposed to be pretty good.

and about sleeping in the truck, most of the stuff thats sound deadening has some thermal value which will work for cold same as heat, combine that with one of those coleman heaters ( sportcat or black cat cant remember which can go in the tent) and you are rockin for some fun moose huntin!

Update

I ordered my carpet set from ACC. Going with the complete black cut-pile carpet with the mass backing. Should be here in 10-14 business days :D

Total came to $513.93 plust shipping, duties, and fees

I got the 20% off internet special with that too:bow:

Well on my way to having a "brand new blazer"... spose I have to start a build thread soon... :doah:I've got some work ahead of me...
