I bought an 86 CUCV m1028. naturally, it has NO wiring harness for a cd player. i have the speakers all installed and everything hooked up. i was just going to run the power directly from the battery, but was wondering about the acc. wire. Can i splice the constant and the acc together and run them both from the battery for power, or does it HAVE to hook up to another acc wire? i have no problem with turning off the radio everytime i use it (had a 79 BMW that i had to do that with, but the cd player was already in it when i bought it). the cd player is a sony xplod, which doesnt really matter since all the aftermarket stereos use the same wiring lol. thanks for any help.

I did the same thing a few years ago.

Dunno about running the wires together as I originally ran one to a constant 12v in the fuse box and the other to a switched 12v. This presented some problems as I couldn't turn the radio on without having the glow plug relay clicking on and off. I then ran both to the same constant but realized I was slowly draining the battery due to the clock staying on.

Finally I put in a lead to the 12v junction next to the master cylinder. I then put a fuse and a switch on that wire and ran it in place of the switched fuse in the fuse box. Works well but you have to remember to turn the radio off with the switch. I used a lighted switch and it helps.

Random but what are you doing about an antenna? I ran a "hidden" antenna but I'm not happy with it's performance.

You can run both the constant(yellow) and acc (red) of constant power however you will have to manually turn the radio of instead of it turning off when your shut the truck down this is also nice though because you can run the radio with the truck off, if you run them both to an acc power then you will loose all your settings when you turn the truck of. I would run a fresh wire from the battery with a fuse or from the fuse box for constant and get your acc power from the fuse box, there should be a spot for a radio..

Here's a rough diagram of the fuse box.

Like I said, you could run both leads off of the one open constant 12v slot but frankly if I had to do it again I'd just run both out of the 12v junction on the firewall and a switch on the acc one.
