ok I know its been discussed. I have read but school me on pvc runflats. 6x6 only place to get them? they pretty good? dont have the mag runflats, would have to buy them, (pretty hard to find locally). Will be kinda hard to find a bandsaw to cut down mags if I do find them. so opinions and vendors for pvc please.

whats is bad about mags? sorry i dont know alot about h1's. i know you have to cut them down.

Just to clarify... a PVC insert is NOT a runflat, it's a beadlock.

Runflats actually hold the rim off the ground if the tire loses it's air and somewhat maintains the shape of the tire carcass so that you can still drive it. A PVC beadlock won't do anything to hold the rim up, and you'll chew up your tire if you treat it like it's a runflat.

Also.... no horsetrading, or parts wanted in "The Garage", you've both been here long enough to know that. Take that part of the discussion to PMs please.

Get pvc waterpipe and cut with your anglegrinder (smells good)
The ones I found was not the right size
so I cut them again and put the rim together
put two pvc rings on where they should be
with the openings on each side
bolted them together and took the rim apart again
put the ring in the tire and mounted all the things
Almost free beadlocks :wink1:

Again sorry about the language I hope you understand

Sorry to hijack but...
What size and kind of pipe do you need to make your own inserts?
How wide do you have to cut them?
Thanks

Here is what I am going off of.

18" sch 80 PVC pipe. (ID close to 16"s)
cut down to 7 1/16 wide.

As soon as I find a place locally that will sell me some pvc pipe I am going to try them out.

I think that they need to be thinner than that, more like 6-6.5 inches wide. The hummer rim is 7.25 inches wide, so 7.125 only leaves you a 1/16 for the thickness of the beads.

One of my suppliers at work could get me the stuff, was like $800-1000 for a 16 foot stick. You could easily make your money back on the stuff. I ended up buying some from a dude off of pirate that had done exactly that.

how do you attach the the two "ends" of the PVC pipe after they are cut?? or does that even matter??

You don't. Most people don't cut straight across though. I have see some dudes use a small piece of sheetmetal and some self tapping screws to hold the lock together.

I wasn't sure about the thickness. I'll double check on a actual run flat.

I did like how the guy cut his pvc inserts on the write-up I linked earlier(pirate). Kind of jigsaw patterned and he cut his so it comes out in 2 pieces. That makes it alot easier to get in and out of a tire.:D

I bolt mine together with small bolts (6mm).
Just think about to put the bolts where the rim is separated :wink1:
When they are together they are only 5/8 thick and a little flexible really easy to put in the tires.

anyone have any luck with dean reeds form the pirate link? they said he came out with a new steel version sapposivly cheaper and better. and where do most people get there o-rings and valve stems from?
