Hey all.. I need a new rear window lock cylinder for my 84 Jimmy.. The key that opens the front doors doesn't fit the cylinder (only goes about 1/4 of the way in).. I've read that there would have been a separate key for the rear power window when the truck was new.. That key is lost if there actually ever was one.. I've lubed up the inside of the cylinder 8 ways to sunday and the door key will not go in.. I suppose something could be broken inside the cylinder preventing it from going in.. But either way I need a new lock cylinder and key.. LMC is the only place I can see that has them but its $140 u.s.. I'm in Canada so with exchange - shipping and tax its gonna be $200 easy.. It is what it is and I'll order it if there are no other options.. Just wondered if there's anywhere else to look.. I've been to all the wreckers up here.. They just look at me like I have 3 heads when I ask if they have parts for K5's..

Door keys operate the rear window.

Unfortunately those lock cylinders aren't particularly cheap. I don't have the GM part number handy. If you look in the parts manual (illustration will probably suffice for that part) here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showpost.php?p=5621043&postcount=1 You should be able to get the GM part number and search for it. I've seen OEM for around half what LMC wants.

I'd consider taking yours out and going to a locksmith, see what they think. It's not that tough to partially disassemble the thing. No matter what you'll need to rekey the cylinder or your doors.

one key for rear window, doors, center console and glove box. Does you key fit the center console and glove box lock. Sounds like the door locks were replaced and not all the others.

Prob best to post in the 'wanted' forum - maybe someones parting out a truck - or check out some of the for sale areas.

^^ good call on reaching to dealers.. i had just read so many posts about guys having no luck at deaers for anything on these trucks, i figured it would be a futile effort to even ask.. i havent had success yet, but one dealer took my vin number and told me to call back tomorrow and he'd let me know if he came up with anything.. fingers crossed..

It's futile for the most part going to GM anymore, but plug the number into google, and if any dealer/parts retailers (gmpartsdirect.com and similar) come back with hits, check them out. They will immediately tell you if they are disco'd or not. But they come up on sites like ebay fairly often. I thought they were ridiculously priced, yet they are far cheaper than LMC apparently.

I think I still have mine if u want it, I switched to manual.

hey brother.. yep, I'd be into that.. but I'm in Canada.. don't know how much of a hassle it is for you to ship but if you know the switch is good and have a key for it.. let me know what you need for it and we can work it out!
