hello all, the problem i have come across is this buddys truck 85 3/4 with 6.2. his power steering pump is constantly squealing at low speeds when we turn the wheel. basically when stopped if we go to turn it squeals and we get armstrong steering.

he has replaced the pump and steering box, we replaced the axle shaft u-joints (which helped some, they were seized) and when we had it all apart seperated the tie rod and could turn both hubs easily by hand, so i don't think it's a seized ball joint. the drag link ends turn fine but we can't seem to find anything else...

Could it be the hydroboost? how would you check that?
and yes before someone says it the belts are tight:D

Sounds like air in the system. Look in the reservoir and see if the fluid looks foamy. Bleeding the system before starting the truck is very important. You could have wiped the new pump out if you ran the truck to bleed it.

or download the PDF file from AGR

How do I know this? :doah: :doah: Been there....

Basically raise the front end and turn the wheel slowly from lock to lock. You will hear the air purging through. I run an external cooler and it took like 40 revolutions to get all the air out. Do it slowly!! The PDF is very well written

when we bled the pump we had one wheel off the ground and had the motor running., the reason the pump was changed was beacause of all this in the first place, it just never solved it.
i have completly run out of ideas...

Is it a cheap auto zone belt or a good Gates or Goodyear belt? If it's a cheap one they will stretch under force and squeal. Go to Napa and buy a new belt. Might try squirting some dish soap on teh belt as it's running and see if that makes it go away- prolly not in your case though.

Did you get a warranty with the pump? If so take it back and try a new one. Bleed it by the instructions and I'm sure you will be fine.

i'll find out from him if he still has the reciept if he does i'll definitly give it a shot.
thanks.
