Im thinking NO, I think it needs as much air flow as possible, seeing how large the radiator is. Some think a flex will move more air, some think the same and some think less.

What do you think?

Cheers,
Andrew

I think they move less air at rpm, and give a few HP, but they sure don't like water crossings.

There was a dyno-test in Carcraft not long ago.
I recall they lost more hp with flex fans, than with the regular clutch fans.

So I say, stay away from them...

I could have SWORE, Diesel engines produce LESS heat than gas engines do :thinking:

under normal driving conditions anyways

personally, i wouldn't use a flex fan on anything, i've tried them in the past, never liked them, never seemed to work the way i wanted them to, always noisy bastiges too.

my 83 is not a diesel but has a 305 , I installed a flex fan and 160 degree thermostat a while back. any time idling , even short periods it would overheat . Reinstalled the original clutch fan and 185 degree thermostat and all is fine again.

Well, that right there... squashes the whole concept!

Note to self: Flex fans may be nice, but not on a trail ride. :doah:
