Q-jet flooding question

So I bought a new aircleaner/housing today at the parts store.

Like an idiot I decided to install it there. When putting in the aircleaner I replaced the threaded rod with the new one and accidently pushed it down the center hole, not the hole it threads into.

This of course shot gas all over everything and down into the carb (engine was off). I'm assuming that maybe I pushed down the float on the quadrajet and the pressure shot the gas out the tube?.

Anyway I think it's totally flooded now as turning it over it is leaking gas down. I've let it sit to hopefully evaporate.

Anyone had this issue or have tips? How long is it going to take to evaporate ballpark? I was going to give it about 4 hours.

Did I screw anything up by pushing it down the wrong hole? (I barely pushed it in and stopped/took it out when it gushed).

you must have went down the bowl vent hole in front?

that might have pushed on the float allowing some fuel to overflow into the throat of the choke plate....so its pushing gas out of the bowl vent while cranking it?
If so sounds like the float is stuck down...try smacking the top of the carb in the front to maybe free up the float, then try to start the truck with the pedal to the floor...it may crank a bit, but should fire...when it does hold it about 1/3 throttle open to let it clean itself out, then see what it does.

Thanks will try it!

Like Zimmer said, should be fine unless u really jammed the float down.

Just got it done, exactly what he said. Whacked it lightly with a mallet around the top. Put a little bit of starter fluid in, pedal to the floor and let it start. Took a while but it started ran rough for a few and now runs great.

Thanks!
