Q-Jet Manual Choke - help

Good day,

i have a Q-jet on my 454 engine which is having problems in the morning when i try to start it.. it needs to be cranked for about 8 seconds before it starts...

also, you can smell fuel after initial startup and when you give it a throttle.

i have been told that my problem is from the Choke.. can anyone help me tuning it up or guide me how to fix it.
