qjet choke replace

You mean how it's removed from the bracket?

IIRC, the bracket has a couple of "ears" that are bent over the top of grooves on the pulloff. Just straighten those two ears and it will slide up and out.

just be careful and you should be ok, we're not talking about a high-stress or wear part, so a little bending isnt going to hurt it.

Since no one else is chiming in to confirm how you remove it, do you see the little bent over tabs I'm thinking of? I know I've replaced a couple, but I sure seem to recall that's how I did it. Never did break one.

I'm going to be home tonight, I can look at one of my carbs to confirm if you want to wait.

OK, I looked at the various Q-jets I have, there are at least two styles. The style I was thinking of does have two metal tabs on the bracket, with the ips bent over the "rails" on the choke pulloff itself. If you were to spread the ears, the choke pulloff would slide out towards the passenger side, as installed on the carb/vehicle.

The other style looks like it has some sort of molded plastic piece. Doesn't look to be removable. Can't tell for certain, but it doesn't look like it is removable without destroying it.

You've probably only got one choke pulloff, and one is the secondary air valve damper/shutoff. I would guess they aren't interchangeable, the "throw" and angle of the rod connections are likely different. If they are externally identical, and the "throw" is the same, then they probably are interchangeable.

I pulled it off and replaced it. thx for the help. For those who might be reading this thread. To remove the choke pull of for a 78 K5 Blazer that has the all metal choke you need to bend the ear tabs. I wasn't sure if this is what I had to do but it is. I used a snap ring plyer to pry them open. That worked well because they are difficult to pry with a screw driver. Overall rather easy job once I knew what to do. Always check the vacuum in a choke. I found out my choke pull-off had bad vacuum.
