What is a good one to get for a 400 sbc with a cam. Specifically summit 1103 cam.

I also plan on putting a set of alluminum heads i have with 2.02/1.60 valves and 180cc intake runners.

Would the 750cfm be ok before And after the heads? Heads prolly won't go on till after summer.

My edelbrocks already running like poop, and I'm just sick of it and its gotta be alot of the reason for my 6mpg.

Should I just got with one from summit like this?

Or go the custom rebuilt and tuned route? Idk who is good. I don't want to have to tune. Put on and go.

Unless someone on here that's knowledgeable about them and has one they could go through and fore and I'd buy for cheaper... I don't have the time to screw with one.

I think Ryoken and some other guys on here recommend Jet... might wanna check them out

One off a big block GM like a caddilac,or pontiac from the 70's or a truck 454 is a good start...it'll probably need tweaking to the air valve adjustment and metering rods, but so would most any Q-jet...

I wouldn't condem the Edelbrock for the low mpg,it should deliver at least 10-12 mpg,I have had several on SBC's and gotten as much as 16 mpg if driven with a light foot--you may need to adjust the float, maybe change the jets and metering rods,or maybe your ignition timing could be advanced more to increase mpg.....my only complaint about the Edelbrocks and AFB's is they tend to flood easily when you go up steep inclines or drive in an off camber situation, which can be a hazard in a dicey situation ...the spring loaded needle/seat they sell to upgrade them is supposed to fix that,I never did try them though...for street driving they were good...

Yah I wheel at the dunes only.

I put the offroad needles in my carb and it works better. Don't have the time to change stuff. Just want a carb I can bolt on and turn the key and run up the dunes no problem.

My edelbrock has worked fine in all the situations I've been in it came out of the box and all I did was adjust idle and mixture. Put in spring Neely and seats and no problem offroad. That jet carb should run pretty nice I've heard. I'd go with that and see how she runs. Otherwise I'd rebuild the edelbrock and that should help if its been on the truck awhil

I rebuilt it last summer and put all new seals, floats, offroad needles, electric choke. It performed well all summer. I wanna see if I can get some better mileage from a qjet also. 6mpg on a fresh motor really brings the suck. I once squeezed 9 but that was feathering the throttle and all highway at 60 mph.

You wanna ship it up to me Dave? That would be worth a try. Maybe I'll get the air fuel gauge I have put in so I can see if its too much carb for my motor.
ship it? dont he have your trim stuff too? just hop in Da spaceship and fly down there:thumb:

Yah da spaceships kinda scary to drive far. I was worried about driving to Dave's the other week that it would break down lol. See I spend all my money on the blazer. And da spaceship gets neglected. Hey Rick email me your Paypal thing. i gots money for ya. Or did you say you don't have one? Can't remember been buyin so much damn stuff lately.:haha:

no pay pal for me:waytogo: i can re PM ya my addy if needed though:D

Yeah I hear ya on mileage but it also helps in how you drive your truck too. Highway I can get 12-15 mpg but cruising around town it drops to 6-8. Lift tires and all that makes a big difference in town or highway. But you would get your best mileage out of efi as it only uses the amount it needs to run efficient. I wish I had the 2500 or so one of those systems cost. I've heard that since the quad has a smaller primary that if you keep off the throttle it will help with fuel economy. Good Luck either way.

Edelbrocks are over rated IMO. I'd go with the Jet one from what I've heard about them.

Adam did you read the description of the carb...it is set up for performance (which I think it does very well when fuel supply is right) I wouldn't count on any mileage increase...If you want to try it, I'll try to take it off pretty soon....If you want to pay for shipping that is fine, and if it don't work out for ya, I can pick it up in July.

That will work Dave.

And actually the specs that are on that page match very close to my compression and cam setup.

I guess the mileage isnt the big concern. Its the flooding, not wanting to start all the time bs because the choke acts up etc. Want somehting that just works.
