So if my K5 has quad shocks which shock is the normal one? The front or the rear of the two?

Big Ugly has singles up front and every other Blazer I've ever had has only had singles so I'm ditching the dual setup if it does have them.

Need to know so I can order replacement shocks.

mine has quad shocks up front too, always thought about going to just one, just no ambition to do so.

I kept the forward shock mount when I went to one. It works for a longer shock.

Is that the "extra" shock or the "normal" shock?

The forward shock is the extra one, the upper mount sort of looks like a cobras head bolted to the frame. The primary shock uses a triangular bracket rivoted to the frame.

Gotcha. Forward shock extra...rear shock normal.

So is either one in a better configuration if I was going to make a quad a double?

BTT, hoping someone has input on this, as I too plan to go to a single on a formerly quad truck, and shock length needed is kind of handy. :)

I would think longer=better, but I'm not lifted or wheeling hard.

I haven't gotten a definitive answer either but it seems like either works fine from what I've heard.

I'm going to order the "normal" front shocks just in case I get it and it isn't a quad setup.

Well, it is a quad shock truck. Thinking about replacing only the front shock like MTBLAZER did.

im eliminating the dual shock setup too...my plan is to keep the more vertical of the two and move the axle-end shock mount to the top of the axle(universal shock brackets from Diy4x). But thats just my idea...doesnt mean it will be the best setup:dunno:

Anybody have a picture of how the front (dual only) shock mounts to the axle?

No picture on hand but the two mount side by side, behind the axle...in the middle(half way between the top and the bottom)

Ah, so the same place as stock, only with a longer bolt. Gotcha.

Anyone got an opinion on which is harder to get off/on?

Yeah one sits inside the bracket on the axle and the outside one uses a spacer and sits outside the bracket with a long bolt holding both of them.

They are both fairly simple. I think the forward one has the bolt that goes through the frame so you have to reach around.

I kept just the forward one as it's the more vertical shock, and it was longer so it was beneficial for travel to me. I used a shorter bolt on the axle and just mounted the single shock inside the bracket.

Have to go measure the bolt on Big Ugly then. Wonder what size it is?

Yeah, the lower shock mounts are the same either way. I swapped a Dana 44 from a 1975 K20 into my 1988 V10 Suburban that has quad shocks, and they bolted right up.
