Sorry to beat the dead horse here guys but I have to ask. I've searched and been reading that a single newer shock will give you a better ride than duals but if I'm setting my 91 V1500 Burb mainly to tow our camper, will I benefit having 4 up front? I'm thinking for stability on the highway towing mainly.

I have new Rancho 5000's on there now but I've also got some Bilstein 5150's sitting around I can throw on to total 4 up front. Is that overkill or ya think I might benefit? :dunno:

Most people who have the factory optioned quad shocks usually remove the forward shock. Also the quad shocks are not the same shock for both locations so if you have some Bilsteins for the front per the application of the main shock they won't work in the place of the aux (quad shock) location.

I checked the length and they will work perfect. I just added an add a leaf front and rear also so now I'm 3 inches higher but they will probably settle 1/2" or more but the length will work for the longer, inner shock.

the valving is also different
but really, once it's ready for a test drive with the camper, throw whatever shocks you have on it and drive it. Then test only 2, etc. Test what you can, with what you have, and go from there I guess. I'm betting you'll end up with two, just for stability purposes if it's a tow rig only. Make sure they work with each other, length you already measured, but the valving with two shocks should be different then just one. Don't know till you try.

4" Tuff Country H.D. springs, Bilstein 7100 short body 12" travel shock in the "quad" position.

I think the shock has a better angle on the spring there, and you can have a longer shock which I think is good too.

If you have a 5150 that fits there, they come with different valving; if they are valved to be singles, and you add them to what you have, the ride may get pretty firm. If the 5150's do work in that position, you might just want to try them alone & see how you like the ride.

Good luck!
