Hey guys,
I have a newly rebuilt qjet and have found that when the air cleaner is on, the choke will not operate properly. It is an edlebrock cleaner. Do I need a qjet specific cleaner?

Also, with the detent cable connected it seems as though the choke cannot open up / fast idle. Is this common?

I assume the linkage is hitting the lower a/c plate?
I think those are made for holley applications. You may be able to "dimple" the plate with a mallet to make some clearance....put a little grease on the linkage where you think its hitting then carefully set the lower a/c plate flattly on the carb, then lift it off to see where its hitting.
The choke should be closed to set the fast idle...this is done when the engine is off, not moving air through the carb. Pushing the pedal to the floor and releasing, will set the choke plate closed and the linkage should apply to the high idle setting when that choke plate is closed.
When you start the engine the choke pulloff will open the choke plate about 1/8" or alittle more to allow airflow into the engine, and when the engine has run for a couple minutes it will start to open the plate more until the engine has enough heat in it to allow it to open fully.
