Just put a 350 in my K5, new sm465 (new to me) and np205. The problems I'm having are when I go to start it, I have to pump the pedal 8 or more times, just to get enough gas to get it started. Otherwise it just cranks and cranks. Even if it is running and then I shut it off, it still will not start unless I pump it 8 or more times first. Thats the first problem.

Second problem..
When its idling...if I just barely press on the gas pedal, it'll want to die right away. I have to kind of tap it, tap it, tap it, slowly building up rpms before I can give it a good Reving. If I just try to rev it up, it'll die. Has anyone had these same problems? If so, whats the fix? Thanks for all help in advance.

Is this all the time? Or just cold/hot? How's she run other-wize? Does it peeter out under a sudden excelleration? Where is the timeing set at? Is it O.K. in all the other RPM ranges, just idle is giveing you troubles? Why is the sky blue? How much lift do you need for 33" tires?

Sounds like the excelerator pump took a dive. Start it up, let the carb fill up, turn it off, pull the air cleaner off, work the throttle by hand and watch the primary ports. There should be a healthey shot of fuel squirting into the primary bores.

Check fuel filter. How many miles are on carb. May need rebuilt. My 69 corvette did the same thing, filter was plugged.

Yes under a sudden acceleration it peeters out on me. I have to baby it when accelerating or revving it up from an idle. This is a fresh rebuild of the carb by myself.

Only idle seems to be affected. Once I'm going and the rpms are up, its fine. This is also at normal operating temperature that all this is happening.

Mine did same thing, was a bad fuel filter.

I agree w/ Twiz... sounds alot like the accelerator pump. Have someone pump the gas w/ the truck off and look and see if you get a squirt of fuel... or just a trible... then hit it like 8 times or whatever you say it takes to get it going and see if it gets just enough fuel out.

I agree on the accelerator pump but a new filter and fuel pump might not be a bad idea either.
