It's back to running like crap again...

free to ck5 member come get this piece of chit :angry1:

You took it to the dealer, and it still runs like crap? What all did they do to it?

If your tank was full of crud I'd bet you have the same crud in the carb.

i was gonna say crappy fuel at first. then i read the whole thing. and i was right.don't give up brother!old varnishy fuel has to be run out. it can't be flushed.i'm guessing the truck sat before you started working on it? mine sits alot so i never fill the tank. it's easier to burn out 4 gallons than 20.i had a 75 3+3 with a 454. the tank filter was so dirty i could only make it 1/4 mile and it would die.put it in nuetral and wait,it would fire back up.i don't know what they did, but i bet it contaminated the rest of the fuel system. {not that they did anything wrong, just what might have happened}. get all the gas out of the tank you can, pull the fuel line off the carb and put it in a can/jar. and get what you can outta the lines.rebuild the carb and you should be good. i have to do this alot. once i burn out the junk,it runs like nobodys bizz.

i got the same problem with my k5, it wont start with out a few sprays of starting fluidafter it sits for a day, but once its been started and warmed up it will fire right up everytime after that, but no matter what it will fall on its face when i try to launch or anytime i take off except in 4 low...ive tried differant carbs, timing adjustments, fuel filters, next thing im goin to try a buddys distributor. if that doesnt do it, im taking it to a dyno shop....

I work at the dealer it was taken into, It all boils down to I have rust/varnish and crap in the tank. :doah: We found it had all this crap in the tank and replaced the filter in the carb and added a auxiliary filter in the line.

I just want to drive my truck like I used to...

get a new tank, or used from the junk yard. the solution to this is very duable and not too difficult. stick with it man, you'll be glad you did when you get it right and did it yourself :waytogo:

I know I will but this is only a piece of the puzzle to what it really needs. I would be tons better if I just bought a new truck but I can't seem to let this one go.

I always hear about those guys who let something go they have had for 20 years and regret it, I don't want to be that guy.

I've been considering buying one of those add on fuel filters that have a base you bolt ro the firewall ,and has a large spin on filter with a water drain petcock on the bottom (just like the factory one on my 82 K2500's 6.2 diesel)...I've seen them in Jegs catalog for about 30 bucks--we used one similar to these when we used to run our vehicles and torch cars at the junkyard off old gas drained from the junkers, and it worked very well..by letting the gas settle in a large drum overnight and putting the hose to the pump only far enough from the surface to avoid sucking air,we'd get 99% water free fuel...we'd have to change the gas filter on the vehicles once every few months, but had no real problems running them ..

Seeing many stations here are having problems with water in their tanks ,and poor quality ethanol fuel in general,I think the water seperator type fuel filters with a large spin on filter is practically a must, especially on older vehicles that sit a lot,and have much more likelyhood of having rust & water collect in the tank..
